This Privacy Policy explains how Tony Brice (“I”, “me”, “my”) — the developer of the Skrift application — collects, uses, and shares information in connection with Skrift. I am the data controller for the purposes of UK data protection law. You can contact me using the details at the end of this policy.

In short

Skrift is a local-first application. Your writing stays on your own device. I do not run any server that stores your documents, and Skrift contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking. The only personal data involved is (1) the details of your purchase, handled by my payment provider, and (2) — only if you choose to turn on the optional AI features — the text you send to a third-party AI provider using your own account.

Information Skrift handles

Your writing and project data

The documents, notes, images, and projects you create in Skrift are stored locally on your device (in a .skrift file and the app’s local settings). I have no access to this data and Skrift does not transmit it to me.

Purchase and licence information

When you buy a licence, the purchase is processed by my reseller and Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy. Through Lemon Squeezy I receive information needed to fulfil and support your order, such as your name, email address, country, and licence details. Payment card details are handled by Lemon Squeezy and its payment processors — I do not see or store your full card details.

When you activate or validate a licence key inside Skrift, the app sends your licence key and a device name (which by default includes your computer’s name) to Lemon Squeezy’s licensing service in order to check and register your licence. This is used only to manage licence activations.

Optional AI features

Skrift’s AI-assisted features are turned off by default. They only work if you choose to enable them and provide your own third-party API key (for example, from Anthropic). If you do, the relevant text from your document is sent to that AI provider so it can generate a response. This data is sent directly from Skrift to the provider using your own account; I do not receive, process, or store it. Your use of the AI provider is governed by that provider’s own terms and privacy policy, and I recommend you review them.

Cloud sync (optional)

If you choose to keep your project in a cloud-synced folder (such as OneDrive, iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive), that provider syncs the file between your devices. This is under your control and governed by that provider’s privacy policy. I have no access to your cloud storage.

Support correspondence

If you email me for support, I will receive your email address and the contents of your message, which I use only to respond to and resolve your enquiry.

How I use information, and my lawful bases

• To provide your licence and the paid app — to fulfil our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b) UK GDPR).
• To provide support — to perform our contract and for my legitimate interest in helping users (Article 6(1)(b) and (f)).
• To meet legal and tax obligations — for example keeping records of sales (Article 6(1)(c)).

Sharing your information

I do not sell your personal information. Information is shared only with:

• Lemon Squeezy — to process your purchase and manage licences;
• An AI provider (e.g. Anthropic) — only if you enable AI features and use your own key, as described above;
• Your chosen cloud provider — only if you configure cloud sync.

International transfers

Some of these providers (including Lemon Squeezy and Anthropic) are based outside the UK, so your information may be transferred internationally. Where that happens, it is protected by appropriate safeguards, such as the providers’ standard contractual clauses and data-processing terms.

Data retention

Purchase and licence records are kept for as long as necessary to support your licence and to meet my legal and tax obligations, then deleted or anonymised. Your writing and project data remain on your own device under your control, and you can delete them at any time.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, please contact me using the details below. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Children’s privacy

Skrift is not directed at children and I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

Security

I take reasonable measures to protect the limited personal information I handle. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and you are responsible for keeping your own device and backups secure.

Changes to this policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
